Yabusoba, the famous traditional soba restaurant was destroyed in a fire

Kanda Yabusoba

At around 7:20PM on February 19th a fire broke out in Kanda, Tokyo destroying five buildings including Kanda Yabusoba.
The fire sight located approximately 500 metres southwest from Akihabara Station, was put out in two hours. The 40 people inside the traditional soba restaurant safely evacuated.
Yabusoba was established in 1880 in Meiji era. The architecture was built 90 years ago, the year of the Great Kantō earthquake, survived through World War II.

"K-ON! x Glico" hijacked Akihabara Station

The ads of "Anime K-ON! X Glico Aisu no Mi(Ice Nuts)" collaboration sales campaign appeared in Akihabara Station. There are 10 voice actresses-autographed posters, the each of the five main characters of the anime have two versions of posters.

[Akihabara] Kanda Fire Station hires animated girl

Yokumi Kanda

Kanda Fire Station in Akihabara, Tokyo hired an animated girl character named Yokumi Kanda.
Designed by an artist Tsukasa Nagano, she will promote the fire department.

Ladies dressed in maid reaped rice on the roof of a building in Akihabara, Tokyo in October 24th.
The NPO project started in 2009 expects 2 kilograms(4.4 pounds) of rice this year used for bento(packed meal) soled at around Akihabara Station.

A new maid cafe inside Yodobashi-Akiba

About 50 waitresses working at maid cafes in Akihabara, Tokyo and people in costumes all together sprinkled water on the street in the afternoon of August 4th.
The temperature at the ground surface dropped by 7C(44.6F) 15 minutes after the event which was 36.7C(98.1F) before the event.

The Book "KAI"

The book called "KAI (Psycho Critique)" written by Tomohiro Kato the criminal of Akihabara Massacre occurred in June 8th 2008 was released.
In the memorandum, he wrote about what he thought, how he acted and why he corrupted in three years till the event. He also refers to the movements on the internet BBS and the way the media interrupted the event.
Revenue from the royalties of the book will be given to victims and bereaved families.

A book introduces 48 Japanese Navy's Curry and Rice recipes

The book "Curry and Rice Recipes of Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force"


A cooking recipe book, "海上自衛隊のめちゃうまカレーレシピ48(48 Curry and Rice Recipes of Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force)" is released at bookstores in Akihabara and all across Japan.
The book contains 38 curry and rice recipes used at the kitchens on the Japanese navy ships and submarines and 10 recipes used at the bases, explaining different traditional recipes of each ship and base for general household uses.

The 82nd Comic Market catalog has been released in bookstores and on Amazon.co.jp in July 14th.
Shops in Akihabara is offering their original special appendixes for each purchase such as anime girl wallpapers designed by famous illustrators.
The catalog has both printed and DVD-ROM versions, and contains information of Comic Market 82 held at Tokyo Big Site from August 10 through 12. Both versions cost 2,400 yen($30.58).
