Members of a USS crew filed suit against TEPCO



8 members of a USS Ronald Reagan crew who joined "Operation Tomodachi", the assistance operation to support Japan in disaster relief following the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami file a suit against TEPCO(Tokyo Electric Power Company) for being exposed to radiation.
The plaintiffs are arguing that they had to work in the stricken area while misunderstanding radiation risk not having being provided accurate information. They claim 220 million dollars, 10 million for the each in damages and the rest for establishing a fund for medical expenses in the future.

U.S. Navy Japan prohibits alcohol after 10 PM

U.S. Force Japan Sasebo Base


U.S. Naval Force Japan ordered the prohibition of alcohol between 10 pm to 8 am to all the bases in Japan. It earlier prohibited the officers from going out between 11 pm and 5 am after two officers were arrested for assaulting an Okinawan female.

U.S. marine officer found dead in the train station

The U.S. Naval Base in Sasebo


Petty officer, second class, Samuel Lewis Stiles, 25 who belongs to the U.S. Fleet Activities Sasebo found dead on the platform of JR Haiki Station in Sasebo City, Nagasaki at 5AM on October 28th.
The right shoulder of his jacket was burnt and he was bleeding from the forehead. He appeared to have electric shock by touching a pantograph on the roof of the train stopping at the station. Police found cans of alcohol beverage on the floor and from his bag.

90 percents of Japanese men think economically supporting family is husband's role



Annual income of women who have been jobless once after marriage

Japanese women: Approximately 70% are below 1.3M yen($16,500)
American women: Over 40% are below 1.42M yen($18,000)


Men who think economical support for family is husband's role

Japanese men: Approximately 90%
American men: Approximately 50%


Women who do not want husband to take child-care leave

Japanese women: 53%
American women: 29%



Research was conducted by the team of Ochanomizu University to women aged between 20 to 39(917 Japaneses/1,508 Americans) and men who have a child aged below 12(715 Japaneses/1500 Americans).


-FACTS-
It is still popular for Japanese women leaving job for a long time after marriage and having baby. However working as part timer is common among them.

The U.S. F-16 fighter crashed into the sea near Nemuro


F-16 fighter



A F-16 fighter took off from Misawa Air Base in Aomori in July 23rd at around 3PM fell into the sea 870km offshore from Nemuro, Hokkaido.
A male pilot escaped from the aircraft was saved by a ship of Hokkaido National Fisheries Institute after after floating on the water for about 6 hours.
