Design for the New National Stadium Japan building chosen

The New National Stadium Japan


JAPAN SPORT COUNCIL announced that the conceptual building design by Zaha Hadid Architects in Britain was chosen for the New National Stadium Japan in Shinjuku, Tokyo. There were eleven finalists on the web site chosen among the applicants from all over the world.
The stadium costs 130 billion yen($1.6B) in total for construction and will possibly be used for Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Bandai asked parents who have a child between 3 to 12 years old about favorite sports of their children.
According to the parents 34.3 percents of children like football, influenced by recent success of Japanese women's football team on the FIFA Women's World Cup 2011 and London Olympic Games.

London Olympic medalists paraded through Ginza

Parade in Ginza


In August 20th, 71 Japanese medalists of 2012 London Olympics on the roof of buses paraded streets of Ginza, Tokyo. Approximately 500,000 spectators crowded around them celebrating their achievements.
The buses proceeded 1km on the street for 20 minutes.


-FACTS-
It was the first time for all Japanese Olympic medalists gathered together to have parade.

2012 London Olympic Game: Japan acquired 38 medals

Kohei Uchimura, medal gymnast in all-around(gold), floor(silver) and team(silver)


In the 2012 London Olympic Game, Japan acquired 38 medals in total(Gold:7/Silver:14/Bronze:17), the sixth place in the total number of medals acquired.

Homare Sawa on TIME magazine

Homare Sawa on "TIME" magazine


Japanese female football player, Homare Sawa was on the cover of Asian version of "TIME" magazine July 30th issue.
She is now playing at Japanese Women's Football team in London Olympic game and was chosen for FIFA World Player of the Year at 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup for the first time as an Asian player.
